PURPOSE

Jeremiah 17: 7-10 “But blessed is the one who trusts in the LORD, whose confidence is in him. They will be like a tree planted by the water that sends out its roots by the stream. It does not fear when heat comes; its leaves are always green. It has no worries in a year of drought and never fails to bear fruit. The heart is deceitful above all things and beyond cure. Who can understand it? I the LORD search the heart and examine the mind, to reward each person according to their conduct, according to what their deeds deserve.” Introduction: In the book of Luke, the writer inspired by the Holy Spirit gathered information from eyewitnesses. Luke, a Doctor, Historian and well educated man, investigated the facts from many eyewitnesses that had experienced and lived through the events that happened in Jesus ministry. He wrote the book of Luke and later the book of Acts (1/4 of the New Testament!) all inspired by the Holy Spirit. Subject: Our Purpose (LUKE CHAPTER 1) As we come across the event of the angel Gabriel talking to Zachariah (father of John the Baptist) the angel Gabriel announced the purpose of John the Baptist life. Because, Zachariah doubted the angel of God, he became dumb and could not speak! Same happened 6 months after his appearance to Zachariah but now to Mary mother of JESUS. The Angel announced the purpose of the coming of Christ. At first she got confused, then she questioned and after the angel explained by answering her questions, she believed and allowed FAITH to take control. After some perplexity and questioning, Mary responds with FAITH in his word in the months and years to come. Have you ever experienced going from confusion to questioning to faith? John the Baptist HAD A PURPOSE announced by the angel to Zachariah. v17 – “And he shall go before him in the spirit and power of Elias, to turn the hearts of the fathers to the children, and the disobedient to the wisdom of the just; to make ready a people prepared for the Lord.” Jesus had HAD A PURPOSE announced by the angel to Mary. v32 – “He shall be great, and shall be called the Son of the Highest: and the Lord God shall give unto him the throne of his father David” We didn’t had an ANGEL announcing our purpose to our parents, BUT better than the angel, the CREATOR of the angel, our LORD and SAVIOR announced what our purpose should be ! What is the purpose of the church? • WORSHIP – Luke 4:8; John 4:23; Rev 4:10 (identify what other ways of worship besides singing) • STUDY HIS WORD – II Timothy 2:15; I Co 4:16 • PRAYER – Acts 2:42 • LOVE ONE ANOTHER – John 13:35; Philippians 1:1-14 • HELP EACH OTHER – Galatians 6:2 • PARTAKE OF BAPTISM AND THE LORD’S SUPER – Luke 22:19-20 • LEARN HOW TO LIVE AS GODLY PEOPLE – Titus 2:11-12 • BE EQUIPPED TO EVANGELIZE – Ephesians 4:12; Matthew 28:18-20 What is YOUR INDIVIDUAL PURPOSE? Matthew 25:14-30 > known as “The Parable of the Bags of Gold “ 14 “Again, it will be like a man going on a journey, who called his servants and entrusted his wealth to them. 15 To one he gave five bags of gold, to another two bags, and to another one bag,[a] each according to his ability. Then he went on his journey. 16 The man who had received five bags of gold went at once and put his money to work and gained five bags more. 17 So also, the one with two bags of gold gained two more. 18 But the man who had received one bag went off, dug a hole in the ground and hid his master’s money. ask yourself - What are my individual talents?
